The huge investment in the ski area continues unabated! These new investments total €18 million and bring the latest technology to Les Arcs in both chairlifts and snowmaking.
A new view of the Vallée de l’Arc
The Vallée de l’Arc is a key site in the Les Arcs ski area. Situated between Arc 2000, Villaroger and Arc 1600, it combines exceptional assets. It is a wide valley looking straight down to Mont Blanc as well as being a sector that is protected from bad weather and accessible to all, even beginners. It is also a key link between Arc 1600 and Malgovert forest, Villaroger and its pastoral village and Arc 2000 and its high-altitude skiing. Little used by skiers until now, the Vallée de l’Arc has been the subject of a huge modernisation project involving an investment of nearly 18 million euros.
Pré Saint-Esprit chairlift, the expression of our modernity
The new Pré Saint-Esprit chairlift is much more than a simple equipment replacement. Of course it will be much more efficient, taking double the capacity the existing chair offers (2700 people/hr compared to 1350 before). Naturally it will be faster, halving the time it takes to reach the top (8 minutes & 27 seconds). It will also be much more comfortable, equipped with protective covers so skiers can shelter from wind or snow and with heated seats... a first! Just like Les Arcs, it will be stylish with a screen print of the resort logo on each chair.
It will also be the longest French chairlift in distance. With a line of 2850 m snaking through the trees and passing over the village of Arc 1950 to end next to the departure station of Plagnettes chair, it is a technological achievement. As an extra bonus, the stylish departure station with its vegetal roof houses a comfortable area for skiers who want to stop for a pause before setting off on the slopes again. Finally, there will also be a new machine room with snow-making equipment, hidden from view. That is what it’s all about in Les Arcs: we don’t simply change a chairlift, we imagine the ideal development and follow the wildest projects right through to the end.
Vallée de l’Arc run to be given a facelift
To give the Vallée de l’Arc sector real added value, the run of the same name has been redeveloped and widened to a width of 25 metres (+40%). It has been given a gentler gradient and flattened before installing new snow-making equipment to ensure top-quality snow cover. It will therefore be a run that anyone can use, even beginners, from the start to the end of the season!
Snow-making
Considerable investment has been made to continue equipping the ski area with snow-making equipment, thereby ensuring top-quality snow cover from the start of the season to the end. The new machine room installed in the Pré Saint Esprit chairlift building and the 36 new snow makers along the Vallée de l’Arc run will guarantee optimum snow cover on this redeveloped sector. This “snow laboratory” can also increase artificial snow production by 50% over the whole of the Les Arcs area. The Villaroger sector has also been equipped with 32 new snow makers and Peisey-Vallandry and Arc 1800 have also had their artificial snow equipment optimised. In all, 80 additional snow makers have been put in this summer to supplement the 475 canons already installed over the area. For the new winter season, a surface area of 152 hectares (12 hectares more than last winter) will therefore benefit from mechanical snow-making capacity, i.e. 61% of the area’s
